I love spring!  It is my favorite season.  And, just for a short share, today I am enjoying our irises.

Erma Bombeck

Erma Bombeck was an American humorist who achieved great popularity for her newspaper column that described home life humorously from the mid-1960s until the late '90s. Bombeck published 15 books, most of which became best sellers.

From 1965 to 1996, Erma Bombeck wrote over 4,000 newspaper columns chronicling the ordinary life of a midwestern suburban housewife with broad, and sometimes eloquent, humor. By the 1970s, her witty columns were read, twice weekly, by thirty million readers of 900 newspapers in the United States and Canada.

My daddy first "fell" for Erma by reading her newspaper column.  He would sit in his chair while reading, and he would soon be laughing aloud.  And, you could be certain that he was going to share her column with you on those days he was particularly amused - which was every column she wrote.

Soon her columns weren't enough, and he started purchasing her books.

He loved If Life Is A Bowl Of Cherries, What Am I Doing In The Pits?  And, The Grass Is Always Greener Over The Septic Tank.  And, Aunt Erma's Cope Book.  In fact, his books are on our bookshelf now.

When my father died in 1986, Erma lost one of her most loyal fans.  She passed away in 1996, and I do believe my father was so happy to meet her when she passed through the pearly gates.

Pink Saturday - April 25, 2009

Happy Pink Saturday!

I want to thank you all for your prayers for my mother.  She will be seeing the doctor again the first week of May.

My pink contribution for this Pink Saturday is my new pink geraniums all potted and looking pretty.  Last week I showed you my new pink gardening tools that were a gift from our very own Diane at A Picture Is Worth A 1,000 Words, and these geraniums waiting at the garden center to be purchased by me.   My pretty pink gardening tools were used to pot these pretty, pink geraniums.

This week we have one hundred sixty-one (161) participants in Pink Saturday.  There are six new participants this week, and you will find them at the bottom of the list.  Let's all take time to welcome them to Pink Saturday.

Believing

I Believe...

• That just because two people argue, that doesn't mean they don't love each other. And just because they don't argue, that doesn't mean they do love each other.
• That sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.
• That we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.
• That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.
• That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance.  Same goes for true love.
• That you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.
• That it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.
• That you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.
• That you can keep going long after you think you can't.
• That we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.
• That either you control your attitude or it controls you.
• That heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.
• That money is a lousy way of keeping score.
• That my best friend and I can do anything, or nothing, and have the best time.
• That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down will be the ones to help you get back up.
• That maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had, and what you've learned from them.....and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.
• That it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others.  Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.
• That no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop for your grief.
• That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.
• That you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.
• Two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.
• That your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know you.
• That even when you think you have no more to give, if a friend cries out to you........you will find the strength to help.
• That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.
• That the people you care about most in life can be taken from you too soon.

Today I am participating in Outdoor Wednesday with Susan at A Southern Daydreamer.  Following are a few pictures I took in our back yard.

Bluebirds have made a nest in here again this year.



We went over to our next door neighbor's back yard to get a picture of her pink dogwood.

Granddad's Bridge

This is Granddad's Bridge.

 

My husband built this bridge which spans a creek bed in our back yard.  About half of our back yard is on the wooded wide of the creek bed.  He cleared the underbrush years ago, and we have several volunteer dogwood trees in this area.  We have planted several dozen azaleas in this area, but we lost about half of them during the severe drought our part of the country experienced.  It has been our plan to build a screened white gazebo in a clearing, but it hasn't ever made it to the top of our list.  Maybe one of these days.

We always referred to the bridge as Granddad's Bridge, but with the artistic talent of Donna at Donna's Art, the name became official.  Donna painted a sign which now proudly proclaims the landmark.  The sign was presented to my husband as a gift from our sweet grandson.

I'm certain you can imagine that a cross over the bridge into the woods is a great adventure for a child.  You just never know what cool things are to be found.
