This song was written by Thomas A. Dorsey (1899-1993) who is known as the father of gospel music. He wrote the song in 1937 for Mahalia Jackson, and it was subsequently a hit for Red Foley in 1951, and was later recorded by Elvis Presley and also by Johnny Cash.

Oh, how I love to hear Elvis! Thanks for sharing. Happy SS Sunday.

Beverly! That is so pretty! Thank you for that, I needed it. :-)
BTW, for some reason, I had a difficult time getting your website to load yesterday. I finally had to visit through an old post on my blog by going back and forth between people who had posted. I nornally try to visit all of your posters, but I wasn't able to do so. I felt bad about it. I particularly like to visit the newbies. I just wonder if others had this trouble.
Sending you much, much love and hoping that your mother is better.
XO,
Sheila :-)

Hi Beverly :)
Of course I'll come to your porch party!! In fact I feel awful that I haven't been by in so long. I'm so far behind on my blog visiting, I fear I'll never catch up. Please know that you are always in my thoughts even when I haven't come by in a while.
This song is one of my favorites and besides... Elvis was a hunk! LOL
off to catch up...
love,
rue

Dear Beverly
Thank you for posting another wonderful video. Oh, and I just love this song somewhere over the rainbow. You know Bev, my daughter and I both saw rainbows tonight...but we weren't together. She called me from her car "Mom are you outside"? "Yes, Sarah I see it over here too." On of my life lessons I taught the girls... when it rains always look for the rainbow.
Blessings, Karen

Hi Beverly, I'm glad you like today's post. We arrived here at Yellowstone at 10:00pm. What a looong drive today.
No, I am not doing a porch party because it would just be a repeat from the last one. I'll do Blue Monday as always.
I like your song today. It is one of my favorites.
I am so tired I have to say goodnight.
Love you...Jeanne
