George Bennard was born in Youngstown, Ohio, soon after the Civil War ended.  His father was a coal miner,   The family moved to Iowa, and George came to Christ through the ministry of the Salvation Army.  He hoped to train for the ministry, but his plans changed when his father died leaving him responsible for his mother and sisters.

Eventually George moved to Chicago, married and began in ministry with the Salvation Army.  Later he was ordained by the Methodist Episcopal church and became a traveling evangelist.

George prayed to fully understand the meaning of the Cross, and during this time of prayer and study the theme of this hymn came to him.  It took him a while to finish, but when he did, his friends Reverend and Mrs. Boswick were so moved that they helped pay the fee to have it printed.  It soon was appearing in hymnbooks across America.

My pink contribution for this Pink Saturday is this sweet doll.  She is one of the dolls I had when I was a child.  I received her from Santa Claus one Christmas in the late 1950s.  She is in her original outfit, and I think she is so pretty.  You can't really tell, but her hair is in a ponytail - also original.

What's My Question Wednesday



I love What's My Question Wednesday.  It is so interesting to read each of your perspectives on my question of the week.  I hope you will begin to come by and take the time to answer my question.  You will enjoy reading the other responses.

A Rooster Party

Today is the day.

I am sharing a few of our roosters today.  My mother is the rooster person in our home.  She had most of these in her home before we moved here, but I have added the roosters in the first, second, third and fifth photos.

First is my "famous" pink rooster.  You can read more about him here.

Next is this small Fitz and Floyd rooster.  You can read more about him here.

This rooster stands in the corner on one of our kitchen counters.



These are on our kitchen window sill.



This rooster stands on the floor next to the cases that hold my cookbooks.



The following roosters (and some of their hen mates) live in an antique oak bowfront cabinet in our breakfast room.  Some of them are various sizes ranging from approximately three inches to nine inches.  I placed them on the table so that you could see them better.

My question for today is ...

Burger King and Disney

Yesterday was a perfect day.  I took the day off of work so I could spend it with my wonderful little grandson.  Today is his first day back at school. 

I picked him up at ten in the morning, and we discussed a plan for the day.  We had lots of options, and the choice was his.  I asked if he were hungry, and he said "a little".  I suggested several places, but he asked if we could go to Burger King.

I told him it might be too late to get breakfast food at Burger King, but there was one about five minutes down the road.  He was elated.  That guy ate nine french toast sticks, and half of a breakfast wrap.

Whoa!  Where did he put all of that?  And, why does he love this stuff?  Ha!

Now, I was right in line with his movie suggestion.  He wanted to see Disney's Up.  And, it was great.  Very nice story, good life lessons and lots of laughs.

Of course, he told me you really need some candy to munch during the movie.  So ...

After we left the movie, I asked if he would like to get a late lunch.  I was thinking I might get some good food in him.  Can you believe he wanted a milkshake?

Should I be feeling bad?  I guess everyone deserves a junk food day once in a while.  Don't they?  And, I am happy to report that his dad took him home, and feed him shrimp scampi, brown rice and green beans for dinner.  Thank God for dad!

And, I thank God for both of them.  They are two great guys.

Tomorrow school begins once again for my grandson.  So today, I am taking a day off of work so that we can spend a special day together.

I'm not certain what we will be doing today, but I am certain that he will have some fun ideas.

Eliza Edmunds Hewitt was one of the premier women hymn writers of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

My pink contribution for this Pink Saturday is an update on my office/scrapbook room remodel.  I have already posted this for Metamorphosis Monday, but quite a few of our participants had asked to see pictures.  Click here to link to an album of pictures if you are interested.

This week we have one hundred sixty-two (162) participants in Pink Saturday.  There are three new participants, and you will find them at the bottom of the list.  Let's all take time to welcome them to Pink Saturday.  The participants are listed in the order in which they began participating.

Please take the time to visit other participants, and leave a comment to let them know you stopped by to enjoy their pink.  Pink Saturday is about having fun, and giving us a chance to meet others in the blogging community.  I promise you it is worth the effort because you will not only see lots of pink, you will meet incredibly nice and talented people.  Please refer to my post dated January 8 for more information about Pink Saturday.
