Today we honor our United States men and women who died while in military service. Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States, and it is now observed on the last Monday of May. This day was first known as Decoration Day, and it was first enacted to honor soldiers of the American Civil War. The name of "Memorial Day" was first used in 1882. It did not become more common until after World War II, and was not declared the official name by Federal law until 1967.
Many brave men an women have given their lives in service to our country. I honor their courage and their memories, and I give thanks to their families for their sacrifice.

Good morning Beverly, this post is a very nice remembrance to our soldiers who have given their lives protecting our country. It truly makes me sad on this special day in the honor of American men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I think of their families who were left to mourn them as well.
Have a happy Memorial day.
Love you,
Jeanne

Good morning Beverly. Your feature honoring our service people is very, very nice and also touching. It is so sad we have so many of these little crosses that perhaps should have never had to be usd.

G'morning....we fly our flag every day that is dry or not too windy. It seems to be flying just a tiny bit higher today, tho.

I still like the term Decoration Day---it makes me think of many trips to the cemeteries to "decorate" the graves when I was small. However, even when I was a kiddo, our family put flowers on the graves of all of our deceased family members/friends....not just the military.
Hope your day was peaceful! L, Dana
