I'm so excited.

 

Do you remember last August when we joined forces with Kelee Katillac for Colette's Miracle Makeover?  So many of you took part in this life-changing event.  Kelee and and her wonderful sponsors have offered us the opportunity to once again shine a bright light with the power of our blog community.

 

Here is a message from Kelee:

You may have heard about the up-coming MiracleMakeover Video Reveal Party. We will be sharing the story of a little boy who is probably a lot like your son, grandson or nephew; he loves cars, trucks and trains. Charlie enjoys riding his bicycle, too. But, he is different than most eight year-olds in two ways: he has brain tumors and he leads a toy drive to help kids in chemotherapy to have happier holidays. "Charlie Santa" was founded by our hero when he was just five and in his first round of chemo. This is one of the reasons he was chosen to be an ambassador for kids with Neurofibromatosis Type1, and a recipient of a Miracle Makeover.... here is a little about Charlie and his family.... I hope you decide to write a post for the internet-wide party the week of August 12-18; posting on Facebook and leaving comments will help raise more money for another MiracleMakeover for someone in-need. Pink Saturday Featured Blog

 

This week I am featuring LaVerne at Riverside Studio.  LaVerne first participated in Pink Saturday March 7, 2009.  Do you already know LaVerne?  The very first time I visited her blog, I clicked on her "About Me" section, and there was her photo.  I thought this is such a pretty and sweet looking lady.  Then as I scrolled through her blog, I realized what an artistic and creative talent LaVerne is.  I mean really - she creates the most wonderful things.  But, more importantly, over the few years that LaVerne has participanted in Pink Saturday, I have learned what a genuine spirit and loving heart she is.  She loves her family with all of her heart, and her kindness shines brightly for all.  I am so glad that I have met her even though it is on-line.  Having LaVerne as the Featured Pink Saturday Participant is like a great big present for each of us.  Now, get on over to say hello and introduce yourself.

First I must shout a hearty “Thank you, Beverly” for coming up with this wonderful adventure we call Pink Saturday. I am so excited to be featured today especially since I’m the original “Accidental Tourist” in Blogland. I was not very computer literate when my friend Nancy, My Crafty Little Page, convinced me  that I had to start an account and post pictures to Flickr so that we could take part in swaps and post our pictures...then she decided I needed a blog of my own...I was in over my head, “not waving, but drowning” but Nancy  is a patient teacher and she got me started...next was blog parties...by that point I was just saying “Yes, mam” to whatever direction she was heading. We’ve done countless swaps and made Itty Bitty Books and visited amazing places and met lovely people in our blog adventures. I must confess that I didn’t consider myself a “Pink” person when I was first introduced to Pink Saturday by Guess Who.  I saw myself more robin’s egg blue or sage green, but as I began to follow the weekly posts, I realized that Pink Saturday is also about having a “pink outlook” or “Pinkattude” and I think that fits me to a tee. I love that we are challenged to seek out the “Pink” in our lives and that we spend time looking around for lovely things and ideas to share with each other.

  On the personal side, I’m a native Texan who loves crafting and creating...recycling and upcycling. Luckily, my sweet hubby is onboard with any of my projects that require the use of tools. He has figured out how to drill glass and ceramics for my birdfeeders...

 

He had perfected drilling into recycled bottles so that I can create “vintage” wine bottle lights to sell atWimberley Trade Day every month. I love recycling and repurposing...even vegetable cans are flattened, painted, decopagued and  embellished as gift pockets to hold small treasures.

 

 

 

Some are sweet and homey with vintage buttons and flowers ... while others are saucy and sassy with

 
 
reclaimed calendar girls and images cut from catalogs and  even junk mail...
 

But my favorite act of destruction/reconstruction is creating an altered book. I’ve made dozens and my blog today features a couple of my favorites. In fact, I’ll be having a giveaway to celebrate being featured today. I made a fun pink altered pocket book just for this Saturday and I’d like to share it with you when you visit today. I'm looking forward to putting my post together for next week's Miracle Makeover. I'll be visiting with my miracle grand-baby who is turning one years old this month. She was born three months early last year - just under two pounds. What a miracle girl she was - so much to praise the Lord for in her first tender months fighting for her life. She is a stunner today - wait til you see her eyes! God has used her story to encourage so many families in birthing crisis. A perfect pink post for the makeover event!

I love Capodimonte, too and have a few. My treasured ones, a bowl and two candlesticks, left to me by my Great Aunt, got lost in a move. I was heartsick as she purchased them while in Italy and when I got them they were close to sixty years old.

I could never have such a delicate creation in our house....one of our kitties would knock it off and break it. They love to "push" stuff around and help me rearrange..especially little Twiggy. Hope you are doing some fun stuff on this wonderful Pink Saturday. My daughter and I are meeting my DIL and Grand Girl at a local children's theater to see a production of The Wiz later today.
