I would love to see Ms. Keira and Mr. Colin together in a production! I've seen both versions .....

I have seen both. Several times!! I really like the original PBS (Ehle/Firth) version best because it is truer to the book (which I have also read several times ;-) I love all of Jane Austen's works and P & P and Emma are my two favorites.

How'd you know that my NOOK and I are just at the spot where Elizabeth turned down Mr. Collins and Charlotte accepted him, all within three days?! A little dip into Austen does wonders during the windy days, and occasionally I catch myself speaking in that so-gracious language of "Do not YOU?" and "I DO believe it 'twas . . ."
Hope your Thanksgiving was marvelous, Dear one, and looking forward to all the Pink celebrations the rest of the year.
love,
rachel

I love this movies, I've seen them both. I love Jane Austen books and the movies too. Everytime they're on TV I watch the movies again! Thanks Beverly and thanks for your lovely visit to me at the last Pink Sat., which are now too red and green, lol! Have a marvelous week. FABBY

One of my all-time favorites and nothing compares to the Colin Firth version. I recently bought the new release of Jane Eyre and was not disappointed with it at all :)
Blessings!

Hi Beverly! So glad you had some time to enjoy my Thanksgiving series. Thank you for your kind comments - it's such a blessing to know the works of my hands bless the heart of another.
Now, as to P&P - you're on my turf here, decidedly! Quite the Jane Austenite, I am - and do love our Elizabeth Bennett. However, I must say, I treasure the six hour version to the galloping speed of the 2 hour version. The Keira Knightly version has many things to its credit - but I do love the Colin Firth Mr. Darcy - and Jennifer Ehle's Lizzie comes across as more approachable to me.
There are some older BBC versions that are of interest, too - and notable for looking dated - but, when you're working with Jane's material - it's all good! So long as it's JANE's material. Some of the newest adaptations of her works take too much license with her original story intent - and character depictions. Not for me.
Well - that's me weighing in my opinion.
Joy!

Hi Beverly! Speaking as a true Janeite I must agree with Kathy that nothing compares to the Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle version. Besides the limiting two-hour time to tell the story, I don't care for the changes in storyline and settings in the Keira Knightly version. The other problem I really had with that version is the modernization of the language. Jane wrote such beautiful words and they were lost to me in the 2-hour movie. As Meg Ryan's character says about reading Pride & Prejudice in the movie 'You've Got Mail' ~ "I get lost in the language."
I am suddenly in the mood to watch P&P ~ or at least read a favorite chapter or two!

I love those period movies. I always look at the sets and the customers. Even if the plot and acting is not the best, that makes it worth while. This was was very good. Richard from My Old Historic House.

Definitely the Firth/Ehle version. For one thing, it lasts longer.
