YES, that was funny. HA! Alright already!!! I changed them. I'm slacking off on my attention to detail. I took those pics late last night and who cared at that moment. Did you see what time I posted this...I was up and not very awake.
We just saw the movie about Bobbie Darin with Sandra Dee. I liked his music and this song was my fave. Thank you...now it is in my head.
Love you, Jeanne

I loved him, but that one I Never DID Get. Even with an explanation I read once, about a gangster, hit-man, etc. It was just ODD for a teenage hit.
And how many people still remember Miss Lotte Lenya?
All best for sunshine and warm soon!!

The song was written by Bertold Brecht and Kurt Weil for "Three Penny Opera" The show was based on John Gay's "The Beggar's Opera" which was written in the 1700s. The Brecht/Weil show was written in Germany in the 1920s and was a complete break from the style of opera and operetta at the time.
There is an extensive website at http://www.threepennyopera.org/intro.php
outlining the history of the show, how it came to be written, and a synopsis of all three acts. It is a powerful and satirical play about "beggars and bandits" in the underside of society.
Mack the Knife was the opening number of the play and became a frequently recorded song for many years, including the Bobby Darin version (in his signature style) and was one of the most successful recordings in his too short life.
