I'm headed back to work today. I have had off of work since Christmas Eve - and so has my husband. It has been absolute bliss.
I don't know why, but I had this song on my mind last night. I feel fairly certain I have shared this with you once before, but if so, I hope you'll listen to it again. Listen carefully. This gives me a great big ole smile.
We've been going through everything in my home office. We have to move everything out of the room temporarily because I am having the room customized with built-ins.
I found this pair of postcards that I got at an antique show about thirty years ago. I had them framed, and hanging in one of our bathrooms before we moved.
They made me laugh when I purchased them, and they still do. I think they are going in the garage sale box.

My answer to yesterday's question is that I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. I'm definitely not a doctor. What can I say other than life happened. I met and fell in love with a wonderful guy, and we will soon be celebrating our thirty-ninth wedding anniversary. And, one funny thing is that I now work in a health system, but on the administrative side.
First of all, let me answer yesterday's question. I generally don't snack after dinner. In fact, I don't consistently eat dinner. If my husband isn't working, we usually just eat two meals a day - breakfast and dinner. And, we try to eat dinner no later than five. When he is working, I don't usually eat when I get home from work. If I do eat something in the evening, it is usually some type of berry. I love blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. And, I like mine plain. No sugar or whipped cream for me.
I have a funny story about dinner. Years ago I invited my aunt and uncle for dinner. I told them to come any time of the day they wanted so we could visit. My aunt told me they would be here by one o'clock in the afternoon. They actually came about noon. I had made us a crab and pasta salad, and I offered them some, but they said they didn't want anything before dinner.
About three o'clock my aunt asked me when I was going to have dinner ready, and I told her that I planned on us eating about five. She gave me the funniest look. Well, it turned out that we call our three meals in a day breakfast, lunch and dinner. They call the meals breakfast, dinner and supper. No wonder they were surprised. And, I definitely got busy preparing dinner because I knew they must be hungry.
That happened more than fifteen years ago, and we still laugh about it.
Erma Bombeck was an American humorist who achieved great popularity for her newspaper column that described home life humorously from the mid-1960s until the late '90s. Bombeck published 15 books, most of which became best sellers.
From 1965 to 1996, Erma Bombeck wrote over 4,000 newspaper columns
chronicling the ordinary life of a midwestern suburban housewife with
broad, and sometimes eloquent, humor. By the 1970s, her witty columns
were read, twice weekly, by thirty million readers of 900 newspapers in
the United States and Canada.
My daddy first "fell" for Erma by reading her newspaper column. He would sit in his chair while reading, and he would soon be laughing aloud. And, you could be certain that he was going to share her column with you on those days he was particularly amused - which was every column she wrote.
Soon her columns weren't enough, and he started purchasing her books.
He loved If Life Is A Bowl Of Cherries, What Am I Doing In The Pits? And, The Grass Is Always Greener Over The Septic Tank. And, Aunt Erma's Cope Book. In fact, his books are on our bookshelf now.
When my father died in 1986, Erma lost one of her most loyal fans. She passed away in 1996, and I do believe my father was so happy to meet her when she passed through the pearly gates.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for What's My Question Wednesday.
When I was a young girl, I decided I was ready to join our church. I was so excited that by the time they sang the invitational hymn, I was sitting on pins and needles. The hymn was Just As I Am, which was not a favorite of mine. But, just as I decided it was time, a small child sitting next to me threw up. I was speechless to say the least, but I was also sick to my stomach. I have a really strong gag reflex, and that did me in. I had to get out of there. My mother wondered what happened because she knew I had decided to join that day. You won't be surprised to know that this hymn brings back more than one memory to me. And, to this day, I remember what that little girl had for breakfast, and I have an appreciation for Just As I Am. Maybe God thought I needed one more week to think about my decision. Just thought I would share a smile today.
Cielo at The House In The Roses is hosting The Chocolate Cookie Spring Party. Please go visit Cielo and the other participants for a delicious taste of spring.
It is a bit chilly at our house today, so we are having our party in our sunroom instead of on the porch. Please help yourself to some hot raspberry tea, Chocolate Raspberry Thumbprint cookies and fresh strawberries.
Don't you love my new yo-yo runner? I found it at Home Goods. Honestly, I can't leave that place without purchasing something.
This English teapot was left to me by my mother's oldest sister. She was a favorite aunt of mine. The cups and saucers were made by Fire KIng, and the pattern name is Alice. I fell in love with the delicate pattern the first time I saw it, and when I found out the pattern name, I just had to have it in honor of my aunt.
Alice has a delicately embossed floral pattern, and is the oldest Fire King
style. It came out in the early 1940's and only cups, saucers and
dinner plates were made. The cup and saucers, which are much more
plentiful than the plates, were given away with Quaker Oats, while the plates were a movie goer's premium. I have collected ten of the cups, saucers and plates. The plates are really more of a luncheon size. Here is a close-up so you can see the pattern.

Why do we press harder
on a remote control when we know the batteries are almost dead?
Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they already know
there is not enough money?
Why does someone
believe you when you
say there are four billion stars; but have to check when you say the paint
is still wet?
Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?
Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw
a revolver at him?
Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
Whose idea was it to put an 'S' in the word 'lisp'?
If people evolved from apes,
why are there still apes?
Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are
always white?
Is there ever a day that mattresses
are not on sale?
Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something
new to eat will have materialized?
Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum
cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give
the vacuum one more chance?
Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end on your first try?
How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures?
When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping
cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, 'It's all right?' Well,
it isn't all right, so why don't we say, 'That really hurt, why don't you
watch where you're going?'
Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off
the table you always manage to knock something else over?
In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when
we complained about the heat?
How come you never hear father-in-law jokes?
And my FAVORITE......
The statistics on sanity is that one out of every four persons is suffering
from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends -- if
they're okay, then it's you.
