This is one of my favorite spots in my living room because each item in the picture has special meaning.
The chest is one my husband and I found in Hickory after many months of trying to find just the perfect piece. We had just about decided there wasn't the perfect piece when we found this. I love the shape of the front, and, of course the drawers are the perfect place to store more treasures.
The books are all special, too. There is a book of roses, a Renoir art book and a book about the South by Charles Kuralt.
The plate on the stand, the pitcher and the candle stand are items that belonged to my aunt and uncle. I think they are beautiful, and I will always treasure them.
The I added the small gold egg-shaped Limoge hinged box that is covered in pink roses. And, the two figurines are part of a collection of Maud Humphrey that belongs to my mother.
But, as the title of this post indicates "it" is all about the pink rose oil painting. Just as always, I knew just what I wanted to hang over this piece of furniture, but where was I to find what I had in my mind. We looked endlessly in art galleries, specialty shops, on-line and everywhere we could imagine. I even went so far as to speak with several artists about commissioning a painting. Then one night, on a whim, I did an e-Bay search on "pink rose oil painting". And, there on my screen appeared this painting. I was speechless because it was exactly what I had envisioned. But, the funniest part is the total investment. It was painted by an artist in a Hong Kong workshop, and I got it for the unbelievable price of seventy-three cents. Unbelievable!!! So, we have dubbed this our seventy-three cent oil painting. And, even by the time I added in thirty-something dollars shipping, and then the cost of having the canvas mounted and framed, it was still my best bargain ever. Because you see, even though I treasure everything in this picture, the painting is my vision come to life.
