There was about a ten year period in which I collected hinged boxes from Limoges, France. I really just have a very small collection, but I treasure each one. They were one of my little indulgences, and my family thought they were a perfect way to give me a gift I would love.
I thought you might like to see a few of my boxes. The one I'm showing you today is an exquisite little cherub. It was a gift from my husband, and I keep it in my scrapbook room/office so that I can see it often.
This first picture shows the cherub stretched out propping it's head in it's hand. So here's a question for you. What sex are cherubs? Are there male cherubs and female cherubs? I sure don't know, do you?
Next I turned the cherub over so that you could see the markings. These boxes are made by different manufacturers located around Limoges, France. They are made from fine French porcelain, and each one is hand crafted and hand painted. The "Peint Main" you see indicates hand painted.
This picture shows that I have slightly opened the box so that you can see how it works. The clasp on this box is double hearts. Many of the boxes have clasps that reflect the subject of the box.
I hope you enjoyed seeing this little cherub. Occasionally, I will share a few more of my boxes.
