Yesterday while visiting all of the Pink Saturday posts, I had the pleasure of visiting Bernideen at Bernideen's Tea Time Blog. Bernideen always shares such wonderful things, and in one of her posts she mentioned the hymn Blessed Assurance. It is another one of my favorite hymns, and I have been singing it to myself since reading her post. Thanks Bernideen for reminding me of this wonderful hymn.
(Click to listen.)
Blessèd assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Refrain
Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
Refrain
Written in 1873 by Fannie Crosby. She was one of the most prolific hymnists in history, despite being blind from shortly after birth. This hymn was featured in the movies Places In The Heart and Trip To Bountiful.
