How Sweet The Sound

Pink Saturday - January 31, 2009

My pink contribution for this Pink Saturday is to honor a woman who was an incredible inspiration to all who came in contact with her.  Kay Yow, the Hall of Fame basketball coach who became an inspiring figure while continuing to coach the North Carolina State women’s team during a long battle with cancer, died last Saturday in Cary, N.C. She was 66.  Kay Yow was diagnosed in 1987, and throughout her over two decade fight against breast cancer she touched many.

Many basketball programs honored Kay Yow including her own team
which took the court in pink.  Let us not falter in our ongoing fight the defeat all types of cancer.



A tribute to a wonderful coach.

Nessun Dorma

Nessun dorma is an aria from the final act of Puccini's operat Turandot.  It is sung by Calaf, the unknown prince, who falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot. However, any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles. If he fails, he will be beheaded.

Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! Tu pure, o Principessa, nella tua fredda stanza, guardi le stelle che tremano d'amore, e di speranza!"

(English translation: "None shall sleep! None shall sleep! Even you, O Princess, in your cold bedroom, watch the stars that tremble with love and with hope!")

"Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me; il nome mio nessun saprà! No, No! Sulla tua bocca lo dirò quando la luce splenderà!"

Okay, I'll Tell You

So many people after seeing my question yesterday have asked my favorite color.

My favorite color is


Yellow

I love yellow.  I can't wear yellow because I look awful in the color.  And, trust me, I mean really awful.  I look best in hot pink.

Our foyer, living room, family room, hallways and our master bedroom are all painted an extremely soft and creamy yellow.  It is like the color of fresh butter.  I know you've seen these pictures before, but I am posting them again so you can get an idea of the yellow that I love.

The background color in the chairs is navy, and the pattern includes a raspberry pink and gold.  I know this is a terrible picture, but I took it at the wrong time of day - too much glare.

The sofa is a raspberry pink.

Our bedroom is shades of white with just a touch of a soft yellowy gold in our chair and shams.  I have tapestry accent pillows on the bed with rose designs.  That is how I get in my touch of yellow/gold and pink.

So, like many of you, I like a lot of different colors.  But, my favorite is yellow, and when I can throw in some navy, gold and a bit of pink I am a very happy girl.  Oh, and to make this even more confusing don't forget how much I like shades of white.

Now, after reading this long-winded answer to your question, I bet you're sorry you asked.

I bet a lot of you think my favorite color is pink,
but it isn't.

Sweet Potato Biscuits

I baked sweet potato biscuits yesterday, and they were melt in your mouth delicious.  My husband loves them, and poor guy rarely ever gets any.  His wife is just no good.

Anyway, I thought you might like to have the recipe.

Ingredients

• 2 cups cooked, mashed sweet potatoes
• 1 stick butter, melted
• 1 1/4 cups milk
• 4 cups self-rising flour
• Pinch baking soda
• 3 tablespoons sugar

Directions

Mix the sweet potatoes, butter and milk until well blended. Stir in the flour, baking soda and sugar. Shape the dough into a ball and knead about 8 to 10 times on a well-floured board. Roll the dough out 1-inch thick and cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Bake in a greased baking pan in a 400-degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until brown.

Pink Saturday - January 24, 2009

My pink contribution for this Pink Saturday are all these fabulous treasures and goodies that came to me from Claudie at Tickled Pink.  Oh my gosh!  First, I cut the packaging tape, and then inside I found all kinds of thrills wrapped in pink and polka-dot tissue paper and ribbons.  My heart was sighing with joy!  Just look at that beautiful card.  It is a pink cake with a tiara, and it says princess.  Now, Claudie truly is a sweet and kind pink princess, and I was feeling like one, too.  Look at those gorgeous and sparkly pink glass slippers.  And, that pink transferware cup and saucer even came with tea.  And be still my heart - Pink Champagne Truffles.  I will use one of my buddy Jeanne's at Backyard Neighbor phrases to describe these delicacies - they are to die for.  Oh my goodness, they melt in your mouth into sheer delight.  My mother came in at just the time I was opening them, and she did away with two before I could blink.  Thank you, thank you, thank you dear Claudie.  Pink hugs to you.

It's not just a color, it's an attitude.

You are welcome to use the Pink Saturday button to display on your blog.  I've been spotting it on quite a few of your blogs.  Do you have yours yet?  Our numbers are growing. 

Pink Saturday girls are fun.

My pink contribution for this Pink Saturday are all these fabulous treasures and goodies that came to me from Claudie at Tickled Pink.  Oh my gosh!  First, I cut the packaging tape, and then inside I found all kinds of thrills wrapped in pink and polka-dot tissue paper and ribbons.  My heart was sighing with joy!  Just look at that beautiful card.  It is a pink cake with a tiara, and it says princess.  Now, Claudie truly is a sweet and kind pink princess, and I was feeling like one, too.  Look at those gorgeous and sparkly pink glass slippers.  And, that pink transferware cup and saucer even came with tea.  And be still my heart - Pink Champagne Truffles.  I will use one of my buddy Jeanne's at Backyard Neighbor phrases to describe these delicacies - they are to die for.  Oh my goodness, they melt in your mouth into sheer delight.  My mother came in at just the time I was opening them, and she did away with two before I could blink.  Thank you, thank you, thank you dear Claudie.  Pink hugs to you.

To Hope

When by my solitary hearth I sit,
 And hateful thoughts enwrap my soul in gloom;
When no fair dreams before my "mind's eye" flit,
 And the bare heath of life presents no bloom;
  Sweet Hope, ethereal balm upon me shed,
  And wave thy silver pinions o'er my head!

Whene'er I wander, at the fall of night,
 Where woven boughs shut out the moon's bright ray,
Should sad Despondency my musings fright,
 And frown, to drive fair Cheerfulness away,
  Peep with the moonbeams through the leafy roof,
  And keep that fiend Despondence far aloof!

Should Disappointment, parent of Despair,
 Strive for her son to seize my careless heart;
When, like a cloud, he sits upon the air,
 Preparing on his spell-bound prey to dart:
  Chase him away, sweet Hope, with visage bright,
