Pink Saturday - February 28, 2009

Happy Pink Saturday!

My pink contribution for this Pink Saturday is this three-piece coffee set which is marked Made in Italy.  It belongs to my mother, and we keep it on one of the sofa end tables in our living room.  I love the little pieces of fruit on the lids.  I'm not sure how old it is, but I know she purchased it at a garage sale more than twenty-five years ago.

A Summer Crush

When I was in high school, I spent some time in the summer camping with my best friend and her parents.  While there, I met the nicest guy, and we had so much in common.  He was a true summer crush, but a person that I remember fondly.

We spent many hours feeding the jukebox at the pavilion and listening to Make The World Go Away by Eddy Arnold.  While I didn't fall in love with the nice young fellow, I did fall in love with Eddy Arnold.

I never became a fan of country music, but I was always a fan of Eddy Arnold.

I know you must be asking yourself what kind of topic is Chairs and Berries.  And, your guess is as good as mine.

Well, I imagine the chairs part is pretty obvious, but how did I choose to include berries?  The answer is simple.  I was on our front porch, and I just happened to notice all of the pretty berries on our holly and nandinas.

So here are a couple of pictures.  I know this is a crazy post, but the birds are loving these berries.  Their sweet songs were what made me notice all of the berries.

Blue Monday - The Kaleidoscope

It's Blue Monday.  Be certain to go visit Sally and everyone doing the blues today.

This is my kaleidoscope.  It was a gift from my mother.  I don't remember the occasion, but I know I have had it for more than twenty-five years.  She saw it at an art gallery, and it made her think of how much I had always loved kaleidoscopes.

It is made out of glass and mirror, and was built in the manner used to assemble a stained glass piece.  It is quite heavy, and it measures almost eight inches in length.

I love gazing through the scope and marveling at all of the changing images, and so does my grandson.  To me, kaleidoscopes are like looking into a magic window.  Visions of loveliness dance before my eye.

Pink Saturday - February 21, 2009

Happy Pink Saturday!

My pink contribution for this Pink Saturday is my jar of pink ribbons.  I save my empty Yankee Candle jars to use to store the ribbons I use for scrapbooking and card making.  I wrap my ribbon around wood clothespins, and it keeps them from getting tangled and wrinkled.  I confess that I have fifteen of these jars filled with ribbon.

Come on, confess.  You have a lot of ribbon, too.  Don't you?!

Hope

Hope was personified in Greek mythology as Elpis. When Pandora opened Pandora's Box, she let out all the evils except one: hope. Apparently, the Greeks considered hope to be as dangerous as all the world's evils. But without hope to accompany all their troubles, humanity was filled with despair. It was a great relief when Pandora revisited her box and let out hope as well. It may be worthy to note that in the story, hope is represented as weakly leaving the box but is in effect far more potent than any of the major evils. In some faiths and religions of the world, hope plays a very important role. Hope can be passive in the sense of a wish, or active as a plan or idea, often against popular belief, with persistent, personal action to execute the plan or prove the idea. Consider a prisoner of war who never gives up hope for escape and, against the odds, plans and accomplishes this. By contrast, consider another prisoner who simply wishes or prays for freedom, or another who gives up all hope of freedom.

This Probably Shouldn't Make Me Laugh, But It Does

It was a very long and difficult day at work yesterday.  I sat here trying to think of something to post, but my brain just couldn't get there.  So ... I started playing around on you tube, and found this.  It was a great stress reliever for me, and instead of continuing to strain my brain, I decided to share the laugh with each of you.
