When I was a young girl, I decided I was ready to join our church. I was so excited that by the time they sang the invitational hymn, I was sitting on pins and needles. The hymn was Just As I Am, which was not a favorite of mine. But, just as I decided it was time, a small child sitting next to me threw up. I was speechless to say the least, but I was also sick to my stomach. I have a really strong gag reflex, and that did me in. I had to get out of there. My mother wondered what happened because she knew I had decided to join that day. You won't be surprised to know that this hymn brings back more than one memory to me. And, to this day, I remember what that little girl had for breakfast, and I have an appreciation for Just As I Am. Maybe God thought I needed one more week to think about my decision. Just thought I would share a smile today.

This English teapot was left to me by my mother's oldest sister. She was a favorite aunt of mine. The cups and saucers were made by Fire KIng, and the pattern name is Alice. I fell in love with the delicate pattern the first time I saw it, and when I found out the pattern name, I just had to have it in honor of my aunt.
Alice has a delicately embossed floral pattern, and is the oldest Fire King
style. It came out in the early 1940's and only cups, saucers and
dinner plates were made. The cup and saucers, which are much more
plentiful than the plates, were given away with Quaker Oats, while the plates were a movie goer's premium. I have collected ten of the cups, saucers and plates. The plates are really more of a luncheon size. Here is a close-up so you can see the pattern.
1/2 c. soft butter
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
1 egg yolk
1 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Cream
together butter, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Sift flour, cocoa and salt; mix
well. Roll into 1" balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg white. Place about 1" apart on ungreased baking
sheet. Bake 5 minutes. Remove from oven, quickly press thumb gently on
top of each cookie. Return to oven and bake 8 minutes longer; cool.
Fill the thumb print with jelly, fruit or tinted sugar icing. Oven
temperature, 375 degrees. Makes 2 dozen. Thanks for coming by.
