Room Preview

Here is a little look at my "new" room.  I have this side of the room somewhat organized.  They are building a box/shelf to go behind the printers and scanners to conceal cords.  And, I plan to use it as a location for my jars of ribbons.  At some point, I want to get a new all-in-one printer/copier/scanner that prints the quality pictures I like.  That will give me more free counter space, but for now I have the three separate units.

Thanks for your encouragement.  I'll post more and better pictures when I'm finished.  This was a quickie.

Room Remodel Update

Just checking in to let you know that I'm still breathing.  The installers were here all day Thursday and Friday, and they still didn't finish.  When I got home from work Friday, I just sat down and cried.  I couldn't believe they weren't finished, and they will be back tomorrow morning.  Additionally, there were a few problems, but most of them have been resolved or have a resolution in the works.

My computer is reconnected, but it isn't where it belongs, and it is very awkward trying to use it.

All that said, I think we have made great progress, and I believe I am going to love my new space.

Thomas Ken has been called England's first hymnist.  He was born in Little Berkhamptead in 1637, and he was raised by his half sister and her husband.  He attended Winchester College, and after being ordained to the ministry, he returned to as a chaplain.

Thomas wrote three hymns to encourage the devotional habits of the boys.  One of each of the hymns was to be sung upon waking, another at bedtime, and a third a midnight in sleep did not come.  Each hymn had thirteen stanzas, and all three ended with a common stanza which has become the most widely sung verse in the world.  The Doxology.

Happy Pink Saturday!

Cuban Sandwiches

Hands down my favorite sandwich is a Cuban Sandwich.

I had my first taste of a Cuban Sandwich when I was four years old, and I have loved them since the first bite.  My father stopped in a Cuban restaurant in Ybor City when we first moved to Tampa, Florida, and that is where our family was first introduced to Cuban cuisine.  And, it is my absolute favorite.

I cook quite a few Cuban dishes in our home.  And, even though we aren't big bread eaters, we treat ourselves by making these wonderful sandwiches.  The only thing I can't get here is freshly-baked Cuban bread.  I don't know if you have ever had any, but let me tell you that it melts in your mouth.

Now I am going to be thinking about these all day while I'm at work.

A Very Busy Week

I'm back at work this week after taking last week as "staycation".   And, this week is going to be very busy because we are having custom built-ins installed in my home office.  That means everything has to be moved out and into the garage until it is complete.  They are supposed to be here for the install this Thursday and Friday.

This week I will be sharing pictures of some of our roses.  I hope you enjoy them, and I know I will as we complete this change.

Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus

Dudley Tyng served as assistant to his father at Philadelphia's Church of the Epiphany.  When he was only twenty-nine, he was chosen to succeed his father.  But, his popularity soon diminished when he began preaching against slavery, and he resigned in 1856.

Tyng and his followers organized the Church of the Covenant at another location in the city, and his reputation grew by leaps and bounds.  He started a noontime Bible study at the YMCA, and his ministry to husbands and fathers was tremendous.

In 1858, Dudley Tyng helped organize a rally to reach men, and it was attended by over five thousand.  As he looked into the crowd, he stated "I would rather this right arm were amputated at the trunk than that I should come short of my duty to you in delivering God's message".  Over one thousand men were converted that day.

Several weeks later Dudley was watching a corn-thrasher in a barn in the nearby countryside.  His hand moved too close.  The machine snared his sleeve, and his arm was ripped off, and the main artery was severed.  Four days later his right arm was completely amputated.  When he realized he was dying, he told his father, "Stand up for Jesus, Father, and tell my brethren of the ministry to stand up for Jesus".

Reverend George Duffield was moved by Dudley's story, and the following Sunday he preached about standing firm for Christ.  He wrote the poem:

Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss.
