In my blog A VINTAGE COTTAGE HOME, as a lover of all things vintage, I write about our cottage home, inspirational decorating, and vintage finds. I have many additional interests such as reading, writing, and arts and crafts. I write about these interests as well as about family, friends, my love of animals - especially my little shelties, nature and hobbies. I have written two books of memoirs and am currently have a giveaway of one of my books so I hope all will come and enter! I am a strong supporter of women and teach classes for a local university specifically about issues women face in our world today. It is so important for us all to share and support each other, and I think Pink Saturday is a great way of bringing women together. Thank you Beverly for continuing to host this marvelous event which provides us with a gathering place each week! Many thanks! Coralie
Thank you Beverly for allowing me to participate as a featured blogger on such a special Pink Saturday! Pink Saturday is joining Kelee at The Katillac Shack for Colette's Miracle Makeover. After reading about this very inspirational story, and Colette's recovery, I couldn't help but reflect on those who have inspired me in my life and would like to share them with you here today. Thank you so much for visiting my blog! I love your sweet comments and visiting others who have the same passions for reusing, reinventing, re-purposing...and the color pink too!
Thank you Beverly for featuring Unshelved Words on this Pink Saturday! I am especially thrilled for my blog to be in the spotlight on this particular day because we are celebrating Pink Saturday's Miracle Party. When you visit my blog, you will read a personal story that tells why Colette's triumph over cancer is so special to me. Isn't that what blogging is all about? It's about sharing and relating to a much broader world than the local neighborhood. Since January, 2009, I have enjoyed sharing the written word, decorating, art swaps, and gardening posts. I have met so many wonderful friends, many of whom have stayed connected. When I penned my first post, I had no idea of the potential for connecting. Quite honestly, I imagined a "flash in the pan" attempt at a few posts that would soon fade away. Now, over 500 posts later, Unshelved Words has become my special diary that is open for all kindred spirits to peruse. for everyone who has visited or will visit my littler corner of the "Blog Library," a heartfelt thank you! I look forward to traveling to your "nook," too, so please leave your comments so that I can find you on the road of sharing. Happy Pink Saturday!

Pink Saturday is indeed sharing in a very special event today. To make this time even more meaningful, we have offered the opportunity for Pink Saturday participants to share an inspirational and uplifting personal story. As you visit the blogs of those participating today, you will have the honor of touching the hearts and souls of those who want to share.
I grew up in a Christian home, and I've always had a strong faith in God. But, like so many, I liked to feel I was in control of my life. It is often those very difficult times in our lives that teach us that we really aren't in control. It is those times when we finally accept that our lives are in God's hands. God has always been there for me, and carried me when it felt like life was so hard that I had to remember to breathe. I believe God gave us the knowledge to make wise choices in our lives, and He stands with us as we live each day. It is my life philosophy that we can mark our success in life by what we do to make each day better for others.
You know how at work you have "work friends". Those are usually the people you work with every day. And, you know how if you stop and think about it some of those "work friends" are different. As we work each day, we realize that some of our "work friends" are very special. They are the ones that always have a smile to share, are always willing to lend a helping hand, and will take the time to listen when we need a friend. About eight years ago, I had the pleasure to work with just that kind of man. He was one of those special people that made our days at work better. I believe you could have asked anyone working in our department, and they would have agreed he was a genuinely nice person. So many of us in that group have moved on to work in other departments, but we are always glad to run into each other along the way.
This special man I'm telling you about is Mitch Meacham. I knew that he was a man who loved his family, loved life and was always kind. I often think of the fun times those of us in our department had together. We worked hard, but we enjoyed our days together.
Over three and one-half years ago I received a call from one of my co-workers to tell me Mitch had been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. The first thing I did was pray. Like so many families, my family has been touched by cancer, and I know how difficult that journey is. But, we've all heard about pancreatic cancer, and I was devastated for Mitch and his family. There were days I would see Mitch in the elevator, and all I could do is smile. My heart was breaking for him, but I knew he didn't need my tears. He needed my prayers. And, I have never missed a day praying for him.
Then, six months later I received another call that Mitch had married his high school sweetheart. The two of them had united their families to become one. I was amazed, and knew this must be a very special woman with a beautiful heart. I personally know what the love of your spouse can mean in your life.
And, here it is three and one-half years later, and I have the honor and thrill of sharing Mitch, his wife and there uplifting story with you. Mitch is an absolute miracle. Three and one-half years ago, he was told he had six months to live. And, by God's grace he lived those six months, and he is still living each day. God has given Mitch the strength he needs, and He has placed people in his life that he needs. And, there are many people praying for Mitch and his family. I know that your heart will be touched by my friend, Mitch, and please add him to your prayer list.
You'll be glad you did.
And just look at that pink shirt Mitch wore as a tribute to Robin.
