Happy Pink Saturday !

This week we have one hundred seventy-one (171) participants in Pink Saturday.  There are three new participants, and you will find them at the bottom of the list.  Let's all take time to welcome them to Pink Saturday.  All participants are listed in the order in which they began participating.

Pink was an acquired taste for me.  I tend to like jewel tones, Chinese reds, and periwinkle blues (yes, all at once).  I grew up a tomboy and pink was the epitome of a girly girl color which I carefully avoided.  Now all grown up and being in business and wanting to be on top of trends, I started seeing and then buying pink Chrismas houses and ornaments.  I sell holidays things and German glass glitter on ebay and on etsy under the store name sugarcampcottage.  Having all these pink Christmas trees and baubles around began to seep into my cousciousness, to the point I was seeking out pink things, pink dresdens, pretty pink scrap pictures, pink German glass glitter.  I realized pink wasn't such a girly girl inspiid color, it was really powerful and really pretty!  Pink has indeed invaded to the point where over the weekend in a sporting goods store I almost broke my neck turning my head when I spotted a large display of pink fishing poles,  When not busy with ebay and etsy and my blog I like to garden and start crafts projects that I never finish.  I live in northeastern Wisconsin with my husband and 3 long-haired furballs (cats).  I have 3 grown up stepchildren and 9 (count-em) grandchildren.  Which is really astonishing to me because the last time I checked I think I was just 19 years old!  Debbie

Thank you Beverly for allowing The Vintage Nest to shine in the spotlight this week.  I started my blog as an adjunct to my website but it quickly became an essential part of me and my little corner of the world.  And more importantly, a part of your world.  The friendships, camaraderie with like souls, vintage seeking lovers, treasure hunters, recipe givers, home styling gurus, friendly advice and comments that make me smile, have enriched my life so much.  Beverly's challenge to find the pink in our everyday existence and not so everyday things have become a part of me that I just adore.  From loving the pink parasols in the old French bucket to the pink of the ice cream truck, it fills my life with happiness and gentleness.  come on over and visit me today.  I am having an awesome give-away to celebrate YOU and Pink Saturday.  Best wishes and xoxo, Lynn

I am so happy to be a part of Pink Saturday and to have my blog spotlighted this week!  In fact, Pink Saturday was my biggest inspiration for starting my blog.  I had been visiting every Saturday for many months and decided I wanted to be a participant of this lovely group and not just a reader.  So I started up my blog in January of this year and immediately joined the Pink Saturday group.  Why the name, A Happy Valentine?  Valentine's Day has been my favorite day of the year since I was a little girl.  I think it's because of the love that is especially expressed on this day and because of the happy colors the day brings to mind ~ and maybe because of the chocolate. :)  I've often wished that every day could be Valentine's Day and at my blog it is!  I try to make it a place filled with love...a place to come home to.  Please drop by for a visit and introduce yourself.  I love meeting new friends!

Happy "Pink Saturday".  Thank you Beverly for featuring me on your "Pink Saturday" post!  I joined not too long after Beverly started Pink Saturday's.  Let me tell you a little about myself, first I love pink always have!  I have been blogging for almost 3 years now, I love to create and share all my ideas with other people with the same intersts and blogging makes that possible.  I live in a pre-civil war farmhouse, (you can read about the history of our old house on my very first blog post.)  I love to go to Flea Markets, Auctions, Antique Stores and Thrift Stores.  I love embroidery and cross stitch!  I collect samplers and other textiles.  I love to transform vintage finds into unique cottage decor.  I am thankful to the Lord for my creative energy that I have been blessed with.  To thank you for visiting me this week I am having a little giveaway of a little "Sunbonnet Sue" needle holder.  Please stop by and enter for my drawing. ~~~~~~Blessings, Shirl

Many of you will remember when Beverly and I co-hosted a comment party for Colette Gauthier who was suffering with cancer. She had moved into a tiny and dismal rental home. You all commented and my foundation Design Gives Back donated a dollar for each comment. Well, as the Inspired Home expert for Guideposts Magazine, I took a crew up to Michigan in the midst of winter to perform a "Miracle Makeover" and create a healing room for her to recover in throughout her treatment. The story is in the September Guideposts Magazine and the Miracle Makeover video     is coming out too. It is deeply inspiring. A must see. And it all started with your comments, thoughts, and prayers!!!! The Pink Saturday bloggers are even in the credits.

To celebrate the power of "creative miracles" Saturday August 28 will be a Pink Saturday Miracle Party! We want you to share in the joy and inspiration! Please dedicate your post to sharing an uplifting story, picture or other inspiring idea. Also, we ask that you post about the Guideposts story and video. We would love for the video to go all over the internet.  It is amazing and Colette shines! You have to see     the room to believe the transformation. It brings HOPE. Colette was given a 5-15% chance of survival. You can see her story in the reveal.

In A Reading Mood

I've been in a reading mood the last week, and I just finished book number four.  I think my brain must have needed some quiet, some time to focus.  And, the reading has worked.

I just pulled another book off of the shelf, and I'll start it today.  It is Last Light Over Carolina by Mary Alice Monroe.  I don't know a thing about it because it has been so long since I purchased it.  Something must have caught my attention.  I'll let you know what I think when I finish.

Thank you Beverly for featuring me on your "Pink Saturday" post!  I feel so honored.  I am a lover of Pink!  I believe Pink should have it's own holiday!  Wouldn't that be fun?  I am a serial collector, who knows she needs to one day get therapy for her problem.  I love to collect pretty things, my collections take on a life of their own.  I am currently co-hosting a "Tea Cup Tuesday", where ladies come to share their tea treasures.  It has been a great success.  I am newbie to blogland and just love it.  A few of my favorite things are Limoges China, vintage linens, silver, plates, roses, ladies on print, plates or statues, lamps, paintings, (you get the picture.)  When I want to start a new collection or trade up, I sell my collectibles on Ebay.  I do not own one of anythng, (I know, therapy!)  I joined "Pink Saturday" about a year ago and have been a regular ever since.  Please come by and visit me, I love to make new friends.  I think "Pinkies" are the best.  I love the Lord and feel blessed to have made so many new friends in blogland!  However, one can never have too many friends!  Blessings, Martha

Thank you for hosting Pink Saturdays Beverly!  I really enjoy all the pretty pink posts every week.  I am Missy from Fairy Child Heirlooms.  I love to create so many different things buy my business is primarily heirloom baby items.  I have four beautiful daughters ages 16, 13, 9, & 7.  Even though my "baby" is seven now, I still love to hand embroider and hand smock sweet little baby clothes.  Everything I make includes a piece of my heart.  I imagine the sweet little baby that might wear the outfit or be wrapped gently in my blankets as I lovingly make them.  I want to apologize for not posting regularly recently... I'm going through a divorce which makes life very complicated.  I could use your cheerful thoughts right now, and yesterday was my birthday, so come on over to wish me a Happy Pink Birthday!  love, Missy

• Rosemary at Random Act of Grace

It's so exciting to be one of the featured blogs for Pink Saturday!  A Random Act of Grace is an act or symbol of grace that occurs randomly in the world.  This blog is about intentionally creating random acts of grace in the world through art and craft.  Behind these actions is the idea that there is a spirituality to making things.  So, be it fine art or simple craft, we give away ourselves just a little when we make something.  There are lots of other crafty arty kinds of things here, too, and just having a blog is giving away something creative every day to everyone who comes for a visit.  Grace itself is, in a manner of speaking, the act of giving away.  Not for gain or as a reward for good deeds.  Not even for a thank you.  Grace is giving away because my cup overflows.  Please stop by for a visit.

Johnson's Drive-In

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I had a few days off work.  We went the "staycation" route, and planned daily trips to be together, antique, shop, take scenic drives - and to eat at local places that have been "in the news".

My husband recently read in Our State magazine about Johnson's Drive-In in Siler City.  The hamburgers looked and sounded wicked delicious, and we decided we'd make the drive to give them a try.

Johnson's has been in business since 1946, and they are only open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.  The saying goes that they prepare fresh meat each day, and when they run out, they close - even if it is before 2 p.m.

Siler City is almost an hour drive for us, and we passed through some beautiful countryside.  Our verdict is definitely a double thumbs-up for Johnson's Drive-In, but I must say they were incredibly rich.  I am certain it is something that I couldn't eat often.

There are about twelve seats at the counter and about six booths.  We had to wait for a booth, and all of the seats were constantly occupied.  It did appear that most of their business is take-out.

A very sweet and quite friendly elderly lady approached us on her way out after dining.  She noticed I was taking pictures, and asked if it were our first time there.  She said she started coming there when they first opened, and she was a young woman, and that she comes at least once a week.

 

The sodas are served in the can, and come with a paper cup filled with ice.  The burgers are served in the paper.  No trays or baskets, and that must help with the end of day clean up.  You know something that decadent just can't be good for you.
