Jordan Lake

Thank you to Sally at Smiling Sally for hosting Blue Monday.

Today I am sharing pictures of Jordan Lake which is nearby where we live.

I took these pictures on one of our drives.

 

Jordan Lake was first authorized for construction in the 1940's for flood control.  The project remained idle for 2 decades until Senator B. Everett Jordan proposed the lake to Congress in 1963.  The plans were met with mixed emotions by land owners and environmentalists.  By 1970, the plans for the lake were again resurrected.  In 1974, the dam was built at the intersections of the Haw and New Hope rivers.  By 1977, the project finally seemed a reality, until the Conservation Council of North Carolina halted construction with a court order for 4 years.

But in the fall of 1981, the floodgates were closed and the water began to rise.   On Feb. 3rd, 1982, the 14,300 acre site reached full pool with a maximum depth of 66 feet.  Governor Hunt officially dedicated the name "B. Everett Jordan" Lake on May 1, 1981.

Since then, Jordan Lake has become one of North Carolina's premiere fisheries.  It is a popular site for beach goers, boaters and campers.

Pink Saturday - August 7, 2010

Happy Pink Saturday !

Thank you, Beverly, for making the Pink Saturday's community.  I love the Pink Saturday.  I have my whole family looking out for ideas for Pink Saturday.  I have not been blogging very long.  Love the swaps and giveaways.  I want to do more giveaways.  Love giving gifts.  I'm always working on some projects.  I enjoy so many different crafts and art that I always have a number of projects in progress.  I enjoy fine art, painting in oils, acrylics and pastels.  Also thoroughly enjoy folk crafts....tole painting, wood carving, sewing , and dabbling in interior design.  I can not make up my mind if I like country of shabby Chic, so I do both.  One of my favorite things is looking for vintage finds.

A big thank you to our wonderful hostess, Beverly, for the perfection that is Pink Saturdays!  I love sharing pinks with fellow colour lovers, and I do so appreciate all the effort Beverly puts forth to make Pink Saturdays happen!  I'm excited to be featured this week - what a lovely honor!  I'm a pink lover and there's usually something pink decorating my world.  Pink's not just a color but an attitude and I try to see the world through rose colored glasses and always look for the pink lining in live.  When life hands me lemons, I try to make pink lemonade.  Feel free to come over for a visit to my blog.  I also love to read and watch movies so I have a few side blogs where I review books and movies.  Otherwise, on my everyday blog featured here, I write about random things in my life, usually aiming for tickling your funny bone pink when possible.  I've recently started dating a new man so I have funny relationship stories.  I'm the mother of a 17 year old boy so there's plenty motherhood material.  I'm also a teacher.  And maybe I should mention I'm a little obsessed with shoes.  Lots and lots of shoes.  It's not wrong to own about 300 pairs, is it?  I like to share humorus stories from my past and overall, I love to write.  So pleased feel free to stop on over at "So these shoes match this purse?" and enjoy!  I'd love to hear from you! ~ Love, Maggie

My pink contribution for this Pink Saturday was something pointed out to me by my sweet husband.  We were in a wonderful gift shop, and he spotted this sign.  He laughed at the sign, and called me to see it.  We both laughed at just how true this is, and then we laughed some more when we saw all of the pink.

Why Are There Feathers Flying?

Well, of course, the reason

there are feathers flying

is because

the roosters are out strutting their stuff

for the Show Us Your Roosters Party 2

being hosted by sweet Barb of Bella Vista.

My mother lives with me, and most of the roosters here belong to her.

Here are a few of the fine fellas in our home.

This pretty guy is one my husband found for me on one of our trips to the mountains.

This tiny little fella (about 2 inches) can hold his

own against the big guys.

Next up is one of my favorites.

He takes up residence on one of my kitchen counters.

This next pair are some of my mothers.

I love these, too.

This pair was given to me by my husband's aunt in 1970.

She had them on her kitchen windowsill many years prior.

I hope you enjoyed seeing a few of the proud roosters

in our home.

Now, I am off to clean up all of the feathers.

They're making my nose itch.
