Exciting Upcoming Event
Pink Saturday August 13, 2011
Do you remember last August when we joined forces with Kelee Katillac for Colette's Miracle Makeover? So many of you took part in this life-changing event. Kelee and and her wonderful sponsors have offered us the opportunity to once again shine a bright light with the power of our blog community.
I received the following e-mail from Kelee:
Hi Beverly,
I hope you are well. I have missed you and your inspiring blog. I pop-by occasionally, but have been so overwhelmed with
the Miracle Makeover work...I just have to stay focused there. It is consuming to make it all work correctly.
I am attaching some information about the 7 year-old recipient and family. As you will see this little angel has a gigantic heart for "giving" of himself. See his attached photo.
With the inspiration from our last Colette Miracle Makeover and the kind comments from all your blogs and
our Miracle Weekend I launched into pulling-off another Miracle Makeover a few months ago! (BTW.. one year and a half later from her DR.s expiration date--Colette is not just surviving--BUT thriving! Hallelujah! )
It has been co-sponsored by Guideposts, a major building company and Design Gives Back. It is set for the August issue of Guideposts which comes out at the end of July. We also made another inspiring video of the process.
Are your Design Angels up for hosting another Miracle Weekend? In August some time? It would be a great celebration as all the bloggers and affiliated followers and readers can celebrate another beautiful project they breathed - life - into with their positive thoughts and words!
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Charlie Grady’s Miracle Room Makeover: Charlie is seven years old and has life threatening brain tumors. He has just started a grueling course of 60 weeks of chemotherapy. Charlie has a bright spirit that loves life, his family -- and dogs -- and especially trucks and trains. He first had chemo when he was five years old and is now blind in his right eye from that tumor.
Charlie Grady has a huge heart and started his own toy drive at Christmas so he can "help" the kids in chemo at St. Louis Children's Hospital. "Charlie Santa" has received media attention and now supplies the hospital with toys all year long.
Kelee Katillac and the Design Gives Back team traveled to Wentzville, Missouri to make Charlie's bedroom into a space of "hope and happiness" for him in this upcoming year of chemotherapy. Charlie dreams of growing-up to be a truck driver. His love of trucks and "Thomas the Train" are the heart of the theme. Charlie draws inspiration from the little train that "could."
Charlie's Family: Charlie's parents are both Navy veterans and his dad just returned from Iraq. Charlie's mom also suffers from Neurofibromatosis type 1, the same disease as Charlie. Charlie has two siblings, a brother, Liam and sister Kaitlin. He shares his room with Liam his older brother. Liam's interests will be included in the room makeover. Katillac and team will also provide inspiring room decor and art therapy for Kaitlin, his 13 yrs old sister.
Supporting Charitable Organization: The designated charitable organization for this project is Friends of Kids with Cancer (FOKC). The FOKC mission is to advocate for children undergoing cancer treatment and provide them and their families with the recreational, educational, and emotional support needed throughout the long hours of chemotherapy, illness and isolation. FOKC is currently providing this support to Charlie Grady and his family. http://www.friendsofkids.com/
The Grady family -- and our sponsors -- will serve as worldwide ambassadors, thru this story and video. With your help, the Grady’s inspiring story will light-up media outlets with positive and practical ideas for transforming one's home and life, while concurrently promoting the support of children living with cancer all over the world.
Thank-you for your kindness and help. Maybe we can shine another bright light -- together -- soon....
Blessings!
Kelee

Pink Saturday Featured Blog
This week I am featuring Nancy at La Chambre Rose. Nancy first participated in Pink Saturday February 7, 2009. Isn't it interesting how Pink Saturday has drawn together so many kindred spirits? Not only do we share the spirit of pink, we also share the "meaning" of pink. We have formed a community of caring and kind hearts. And, Nancy is a perfect member of this community. Nancy is bright, enterprising, adventurous and she always welcomes you with a smile. Go visit Nancy and step into her world of creativity and beauty. She will greet you with a open heart and ready smile. You'll come away with a new and special friend.
Take a minute to go meet Nancy, and please introduce yourself.
Nancy has written the follow message to you.
Happy Pink Saturday and a tremendous thank you for the feature today!
I am so grateful to Beverly for Pink Saturday. I specifically started my blog to visit posts in a community with interests similar to mine. You all saved me during those seven months of snow in Vermont. Many Saturdays I sat at a butcher block table that served as our kitchen island, with a sea of snow covered mountains visible out the walls of windows and my Pink Saturday friends. There were pink flowers on your posts so I knew they existed somewhere.
We are now in California with lots of pink roses in our yard for months. However, my husband still travels often and my son is in college in New Orleans. I am truly an empty nester, in another new city, and still thankful for all the friendly sharing each week on Pink Saturday. The most important work I do is take care of family and friends. And, I have owned a "real" business. However, for the past 14 years I have been selling vintage and new craft supplies, mostly trims, on the internet. Since we have lived in four states during that time, it has been nice to have a "portable" job. I have always taken every opportunity to teach others. At one time it was at risk children. Now I focus on sharing any knowledge I have that might assist women who want to start their own business online. On a teaching micro level, there is a little scrap craft tutorial today at Linens and Laurel showing how I made the flowers in the picture. I hope you take a minute to stop by.

Today for Pink Saturday I am sharing
the doll crib from my childhood. This is where my baby dolls
slept and dreamed their sweet dreams. Notice the sweet decals
and pretty bunnies. I took these pictures because I have
decided to try to sell this.
